ACUA VITAE

ACUA celebrates 25 years in the latest edition of ACUA Vitae with 25 profiles of people in our community who have promoted, preserved, and developed Ukrainian folk and contemporary art. Andrea Slobodian writes about Mykhailo Musienko's love and talent for music [read article]; Kathleen Bell talks with Lesia Pohoreski about her passion for song [read article]; and Fawnda Mithrush shares with us Elizabeth Holinaty's lifelong pursuit of fabric, embroidery, and textiles [read article].


What We Do

Our main areas of activity include:

  • publication of the biannual Ukrainian arts and culture magazine, ACUA Vitae
  • provision of annual scholarships through the Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre at Grant MacEwan College and through the Friends of the Ukrainian Folklore Centre at the University of Alberta
  • monthly list service with current calls, opportunities, and events for Ukrainian artists, and Ukrainian arts organizations
  • Artists directory listing access
  • annual artist show and sales in Edmonton, Calgary, and Jasper
  • cultural events
  • ongoing art workshops offered to the general public, featuring Ukrainian artists in a wide variety of mediums

ACUA projects operate on funding from grants and scholarships, as eligible. We raise funds through:

  • Alberta Gaming Casino
  • Zacharovana Nich silent auction gala (every two years)
  • fund raisers
