We will explore Hutsul icons on glass. These folk icons are a wonderful example of primitive art from Western Ukraine. The images are vibrant and have an innocent beauty. Iryna will give a brief history and guide us through the process of painting our own icons. A perfect project for beginners. Supplies included. All Levels welcome.

Pysanka Writing 101

Create an original pysanka to take home for Easter follow¬ing step by step instructions. Information handouts will be provided. A $10 dinner (optional) will be provided by St. John's Institute from 5:00 6:30 for those wishing to add additional fun and flavour to the evening. Call ahead for dinner reservations at (780) 439-2320 by February 27th, 2011.
Supplies: Please bring 2 3 uncooked eggs, soaked in diluted vinegar (one part vinegar one part water) for 15 minutes. All other supplies included. All levels welcome.

Etched Pysanka Etched Traditional Designs on Egg

Etching is a technique that removes a layer of shell to give the design a three dimensional effect. Using brown or dyed eggs, and a wax-resist technique, we will create unique pysanka designs. Participants may bring their own rotary tool if they have one. Supplies included. All levels welcome.
